Meet Alex

A smiling man with a beard and short brown hair standing indoors. He's wearing a light blue polo shirt with folded arms. The background shows a hallway with warm lighting and some furniture.

I’m Alex J. Weiner, MPH, FNP/PMHNP — a double board-certified Family and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

My work is built on the idea that mental health care should feel accessible, respectful, and collaborative. Before specializing in psychiatry, I spent years in community primary care, which shaped my commitment to whole-person care.

I help adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, burnout, and big life transitions. I opened NB Psych & Wellness to offer thoughtful evidence-based care here in New Bedford.

I earned my Master of Public Health at Drexel University, trained in Family Practice at Yale, and completed my psychiatric training locally at UMass Dartmouth.

A Modern Approach

I practice trauma-informed, relationship-centered care. We start with a thorough evaluation — usually over one or two visits — so I can understand your story, clarify what’s getting in the way, and create a plan that fits your life.

I believe in diagnostic humility: labels can help guide care, but they don’t define you. We’ll revisit them as we learn more, always keeping the focus on your goals and growth.

Medication can be helpful, but it’s never the whole story. I pair medication management with supportive therapy, practical skills, and — when it makes sense — I’ll coordinate with your primary care provider or therapist. Advocacy is part of my job too, whether that means helping you navigate systems, writing letters, or helping you access community resources.

What You Can Expect

  • A collaborative space where you feel listened to, not rushed

  • A clear plan after your evaluation, with check-ins to adjust as needed

  • Medication when useful, paired with concrete therapy or skills in every visit

  • Care coordination and advocacy when it helps you move forward

Rates and Insurance

NB Psych & Wellness is in-network with Optum/UnitedHealthcare, with additional insurance panels currently in progress. We expect to add Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Tufts, and Harvard Pilgrim soon and will update patients as new plans are approved.

We believe in transparency around costs and access. If we are not yet in-network with your plan, you may choose to pay privately and request a detailed receipt (superbill) for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
